Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacob Reynolds ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joshua Shouse ! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reynolds gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Shouse counters by clinching up. Shouse breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Reynolds works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Reynolds tries to clinch up but Shouse circles away and keeps his distance. Reynolds gets caught flat footed, as Shouse shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Shouse gets to his feet - Reynolds follows without any prompting. Reynolds pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Reynolds tries to clinch and Shouse counters by clinching up. Shouse tightens his grip and picks Reynolds up, before dumping him to the ground. Reynolds manages to land in guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shouse chips away with some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shouse slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Reynolds looking for a guillotine here but Shouse defends easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shouse controlling from the top position. Shouse is pushing down on Reynolds 's leg trying to pass to half guard. Reynolds is fighting to maintain full guard but Shouse has managed to sneak the leg through. Shouse works his foot free and advances to mount. Reynolds regains half guard. Reynolds on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shouse passes to full mount! Shouse controlling the position easily from mount. Reynolds knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shouse on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shouse working away from the top, dropping strikes. Shouse controlling the pace for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shouse landing strikes from the mount. Shouse takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Reynolds tries to get back to half guard but can't. Shouse tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joshua Shouse dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Shouse fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Reynolds to the ground. Shouse is now in Reynolds 's guard. Shouse is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Shouse postures up in Reynolds 's guard and throws a big left but Reynolds blocks it. Reynolds really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Shouse seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Shouse passes into half guard. Shouse controlling the pace. Shouse 's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Shouse . He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reynolds is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Shouse scores with a couple of nice shots. Shouse works his way into side control. Shouse works to advance to full mount. Reynolds defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Shouse looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
A nice elbow there by Shouse . Shouse content just to control the position here. Reynolds is in a horrible position here. Shouse smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shouse controlling the pace for now. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shouse stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Shouse is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Reynolds 's half guard. Shouse controlling the action here.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Joshua Shouse has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Reynolds fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Reynolds fails with the takedown. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Shouse scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shouse thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Shouse has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Reynolds is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Shouse yanks on the arm and Reynolds is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Shouse .
