The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nikiforov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Penn swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Penn slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Nikiforov shoots in for a takedown but Penn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Nikiforov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Penn avoids it really well and circles away.
Nikiforov fails with an attempt to clinch.

Nikiforov tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Penn paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Nikiforov looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Nikiforov shoots in but Penn avoids the takedown attempt easily.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Penn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nikiforov did well to prevent Penn getting side control.

Penn takes a swing at Nikiforov's ribcage but misses.
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nikiforov tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nikiforov to the ground. Nikiforov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nikiforov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Penn as he jumps to the side.
Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nikiforov but Nikiforov pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Penn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nikiforov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nikiforov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
