PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Beucher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Wayne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John Wayne was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Beucher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Wayne!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wayne stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wayne wants it to stay on the feet.

Wayne drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Beucher has momentary wrist control but Wayne slips an elbow through the middle.
Wayne wants to control from the top but Beucher keeps moving.
Wayne is looking to work some ground and pound but Beucher has wrist control.
Wayne trying to control the position from guard on top but Beucher is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wayne postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Wayne tries to free his leg and advance position but Beucher is retaining full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wayne sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Beucher is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Wayne was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Beucher closes the distance and clinches.

Wayne has hold of one of Beucher's legs. Beucher is fighting the takedown attempt but Wayne gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Beucher pulls Wayne in close to prevent any damage.
Wayne postures up and lands a big shot to Beucher's brow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wayne throws a big elbow that misses.

Wayne lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Beucher utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wayne has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Beucher is pulling down on Wayne's head. It's preventing any offense from Wayne, at least for the moment.
Beucher wants to sweep here but Wayne controlling him for the moment.
Wayne throwing strikes from guard but Beucher blocks nicely.

Beucher wants to stand but Wayne is controlling the position.

Wayne wants to control from the top but Beucher keeps moving.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Beucher is looking to stand up but Wayne isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Beucher shoots in looking for a takedown. Wayne tries to sprawl out of it but Beucher keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wayne manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Beucher leaves Wayne with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wayne fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Wayne throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Beucher's waist but Beucher gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wayne off to one side.
Bobby Beucher has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Wayne.
A looping hook to the body misses from Beucher. Wayne does a little dance to reset his feet.
Beucher stuffs the takedown attempt from Wayne. Wayne gets slowly back to his feet.

Wayne manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Beucher on his heels. He'll look to pass Beucher's guard now, I'm sure.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wayne drops back, looking for a kneebar! Beucher looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Beucher looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Beucher!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Wayne dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Beucher keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
John Wayne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beucher misses with a double jab.
Beucher jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Wayne slaps away a takedown attempt from Beucher, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Wayne shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Beucher manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
John Wayne has got the better of the ground game so far.
Wayne keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Beucher's head.
Wayne is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wayne accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wayne pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Beucher is keeping the position for now.
Beucher wants to sweep but no luck.

Wayne landing with the ground and pound.

Wayne postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Beucher keeping moving, preventing Wayne from controlling successfully.
Wayne seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

John Wayne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Beucher's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Wayne fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Beucher sprawls well initially but Wayne persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Beucher is staying active underneath Wayne, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Beucher wants to get back to full guard.
Wayne is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Beucher is in all sorts of trouble here.
Wayne sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Wayne lands a big elbow - Beucher is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Beucher is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). John Wayne!
John Wayne very nearly forgot to thank Wolfpack Blood Labs Q158-Q155 amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
