Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Greg Stairs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Corpuz! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Thiago Cunha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stairs wants to clinch. Corpuz shoots for a double leg takedown but Stairs sprawls well. He's pushed Corpuz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Stairs shoots and misses and Corpuz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Corpuz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Corpuz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Corpuz looking to pass the guard. Corpuz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stairs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Corpuz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Corpuz stopping the sweep attempt from Stairs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Corpuz passes into half guard. Stairs is defending against the submission attempts here by Corpuz.
Corpuz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Stairs! Corpuz is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Stairs can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Corpuz is working for a guillotine from mount but Stairs frees his head quite easily.
Stairs defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Corpuz.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Corpuz has isolated one of Stairs's arms. Stairs looking to fight him off but Corpuz twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
