Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Ashnault!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay King!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, David Schapiro and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King shoots in for a takedown but Ashnault shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
King with a poor takedown

and Ashnault counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for King!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Ashnault controlling from side mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King is looking for a sweep.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Anthony Ashnault just wasn't active enough.

and Ashnault counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

King escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ashnault gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ashnault knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for King on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Anthony Ashnault.

enabling Ashnault to counter with a crisp jab.

and Ashnault counters with a single leg into guard. King didn't expect that.
Ashnault is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ashnault got a little sloppy there for a moment and King has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ashnault has managed to get both his arms back between King's legs - danger averted.
Ashnault is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

King closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - King lands in his opponent's guard.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from King is defended easily by Ashnault.

Ashnault throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. King tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ashnault is in King's guard.

King is looking for a triangle but Ashnault pushes his legs off easily.

Ashnault stands and throws King's legs to the side, diving into side control.

King takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

King is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Ashnault wants to sweep here but King controlling him for the moment.

Well, if Ashnault is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

We're going to have a standup here because Anthony Ashnault wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
King uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ashnault.

Ashnault closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

King closes the distance and clinches up with Ashnault, looking for a takedown. King pushes Ashnault against the cage but Ashnault circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Anthony Ashnault is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
