PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shivi Mckay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Darker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shivi Mckay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Darker!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mckay lands a glancing blow to the side of Darker's head.
Darker tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mckay paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Darker tries to clinch but Mckay moves out of range.
Darker is looking to clinch but Mckay is avoiding it.
Darker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Darker fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mckay fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mckay fails to land the takedown.
Mckay looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shivi Mckay. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mckay shoots in looking for a takedown. Darker tries to sprawl out of it but Mckay keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Darker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Mckay counters by clinching up.
Mckay really is a fat lump.

Mckay manages to pull guard.
Darker controlling from the top position.
Mckay striking off his back but it's not causing Darker any problems.

Darker got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mckay has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Darker has managed to get both his arms back between Mckay's legs - danger averted.
Darker works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Poor strikes thrown by Darker there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Darker throwing strikes here but Mckay is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Darker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mckay wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Darker.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Darker is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Mckay has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Darker tries to control but Mckay wriggling away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mckay is trying to reverse the position but instead Darker has taken his back - oops!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Darker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mckay sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Darker somewhat.
Darker with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Darker fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mckay avoids it really well and circles away.
Darker swings for the body but Mckay moves out of range.
Mckay fails with a takedown attempt.
No luck for Mckay with that takedown attempt.
Shivi Mckay is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Darker pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Mckay is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mckay tries to clinch but Darker is having none of it.

and Darker counters with a head kick that drops Mckay to the mat! Mckay scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mckay stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mckay wants it to stay on the feet.
Shivi Mckay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Darker.
Darker leaves Mckay with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mckay shoots for a double leg takedown but Darker sprawls well. He's pushed Mckay's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mckay.
Mckay scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Darker tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mckay swivels and escapes.

Mckay shoots in for a double leg but Darker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Mckay doesn't manage to clinch there - Darker circles away.

Mckay throws a right and a left that Darker avoids nicely.
Darker wants to clinch up but Mckay keeps it at a distance.
Darker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mckay circles away quickly and effectively.
Mckay lands with a right hand.
Mckay displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Darker.
Darker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mckay tries to avoid it but Darker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mckay to the ground. Mckay escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Darker is breathing heavily.

Mckay will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Darker tries to clinch up but Mckay circles away and keeps his distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mckay.
Darker thows a body shot but no joy.
Mckay pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Mckay drives through and clinches with Darker against the cage.
Mckay tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Darker just stands there and leans against the cage.

Mckay is struggling to control the position.

Darker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mckay misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Darker shoots in and drives through. Mckay sprawls well.
Mckay wants to clinch.

Mckay pushes Darker up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Darker is trying to drag Mckay to the mat but Mckay just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Darker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Mckay tries to close the distance and clinch but Darker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Darker shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mckay as he avoids it easily.
Mckay shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Darker defends it nicely.
Mckay stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mckay wants it to stay on the feet.
Darker tries a head kick but it misses.
Darker slips a jab and a cross from Mckay.
Darker shoots for a takedown but Mckay saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Shivi Mckay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Darker.
Darker throws a series of punches but Mckay moves out of range.

Mckay closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Darker takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mckay swings around for an armbar but Darker sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mckay's guard.

Mckay looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Darker passes into side control.

Darker stands up and beckons Mckay to his feet.
Mckay looks for a takedown but Darker sprawls well.
Darker walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Darker shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mckay as he jumps to the side.

Mckay misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Darker tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mckay swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mckay lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Darker lands with a shot to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mckay is looking to clinch but Darker is avoiding it.
Mckay circles away from the clinch attempt.
Darker tries to clinch up but Mckay circles away and keeps his distance.

Darker fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Darker looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Mckay gets a clinch.

Mckay manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Mckay might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mckay has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Darker is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mckay.
Mckay parries the strikes from Darker easily there. Darker is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mckay to escape.

Mckay tries to buck Darker off but Darker is having none of it.
Mckay knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Darker on the ground.

Darker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Darker working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Darker is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Mckay's shoulder. That is not cool.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Darker advances to full mount.
Shivi Mckay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Peter Darker is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Darker blocks Mckay's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Peter Darker.
I've got Darker winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
