0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Carlsson! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carlsson misses with a few strikes there.
Carlsson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Carlsson pulls Macarenco into guard.
Macarenco has gone for a leg lock! Carlsson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Macarenco's guard. Carlsson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Macarenco looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Carlsson controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Carlsson wants to get up but he can't break Macarenco's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Carlsson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Macarenco had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Carlsson defends it easily. Carlsson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Carlsson's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's one minute gone in the round. Carlsson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Michael Carlsson. Carlsson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Carlsson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Macarenco on his heels. He'll look to pass Macarenco's guard now, I'm sure. Carlsson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Macarenco throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Carlsson sitting in guard, not really doing much. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Macarenco looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Carlsson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Macarenco swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carlsson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Macarenco's head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Carlsson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Macarenco has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carlsson has managed to get both his arms back between Macarenco's legs - danger averted. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Macarenco looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carlsson is one step ahead there. Carlsson controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Carlsson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Carlsson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Macarenco. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Michael Carlsson wasn't active enough on the ground. Macarenco shoots and misses and Carlsson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carlsson.

Macarenco keeping full guard, as Carlsson tries to pass. Carlsson content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Macarenco is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Carlsson is working Macarenco over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Carlsson is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Macarenco has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Carlsson is looking to defend but Macarenco has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Carlsson! Macarenco pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Carlsson taps out and this one is all over!
