Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Mitrione! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kev Hawkins! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Hawkins gets caught napping as Mitrione dives in and scores a takedown. Hawkins manages to retain guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Hawkins has Mitrione pulled in close to control his posture. Mitrione trying to control the position from guard on top but Hawkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mitrione stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hawkins swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mitrione trying to control but Hawkins is working from the bottom. Hawkins trying to control the position.
Mitrione tries to free his leg and advance position but Hawkins is retaining full guard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Horrible takedown by Mitrione or perhaps it was just good defense by Hawkins which made him look bad. Mitrione misses with a takedown and Hawkins counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. No luck for Mitrione with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Mitrione. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mitrione decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Hawkins slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Hawkins tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hawkins looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Hawkins keeping moving, preventing Mitrione from controlling successfully. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Mitrione throwing strikes from guard but Hawkins blocks nicely. Mitrione wants to control from the top but Hawkins keeps moving. Mitrione trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Hawkins wants to sweep but no luck. Hawkins controlling Mitrione's posture.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mitrione dives in and grabs Hawkins's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hawkins pushes down on Mitrione's head and hops out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mitrione looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Hawkins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Mitrione shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hawkins pinned against the ropes. Hawkins gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Mitrione decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Hawkins trying to control here.
Mitrione is taking a breather. Hawkins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Mitrione wants to pass the guard but Hawkins is defending well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matt Mitrione dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Mitrione changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hawkins tries to avoid it but Mitrione manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hawkins to the ground. Hawkins escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Matt Mitrione seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mitrione fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Hawkins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Mitrione. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mitrione fails to land the takedown. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. No luck with that takedown attempt from Mitrione. Mitrione misses with a takedown attempt - Hawkins sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Mitrione shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hawkins defends it nicely. Mitrione shoots in for a double leg but Hawkins sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mitrione shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hawkins but Hawkins pushes him off and we're back to square one. No luck for Mitrione with that takedown attempt. Mitrione fails with the takedown.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mitrione shoots in but no luck this time. Nice sprawl there from Hawkins as Mitrione shoots in. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nice takedown defense from Hawkins. No joy for Mitrione on that attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Matt Mitrione will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Mitrione with a lazy takedown attempt and Hawkins counters with a nice leg kick. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mitrione shoots and misses and Hawkins counters with a slapping leg kick. This has been an exciting period of action! Mitrione misses with a takedown attempt and Hawkins counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Mitrione! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Hawkins!
