Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Felix Akamai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Shields!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Fedor Mirinova and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Akamai as Shields shoots in.
Shields throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Akamai's waist but Akamai gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shields off to one side.

Felix Akamai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Shields.
Shields has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Akamai is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Akamai is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Shields drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Akamai gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Shields tries to pull guard but Akamai holds him up against the cage and eventually Shields drops back down to his feet.

Akamai's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Akamai cracks Shields with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Shields gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Akamai counters with a nice body shot.
Akamai moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Shields shoots in for a takedown but Akamai shows good takedown defense.
Felix Akamai is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Akamai throws a shot to the body.
Shields shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Akamai counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Akamai cracks Shields with a right hand to the side of the head.

Shields looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are battling for position here. Akamai manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Shields must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Shields throws a strike but Akamai rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Felix Akamai.

Shields looking to score a takedown here. Akamai is defending well but Shields drives through and ends up in Akamai's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Akamai is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Akamai avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Shields really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Akamai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shields working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Akamai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Shields in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Akamai is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Shields rolls with it to try and escape but Akamai cranks on the arm and Shields is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Felix Akamai!
