Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel MacKinnon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Daniel MacKinnon!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hank Mir!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

MacKinnon pushes Mir up against the cage in a clinch.
MacKinnon leaning against his opponent.

MacKinnon breaks the clinch.
Mir shoots in looking for a takedown. MacKinnon tries to sprawl out of it but Mir keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. MacKinnon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mir closes the distance but MacKinnon moves to the side

and MacKinnon counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Mir is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mir gets back to full guard.
Mir is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
MacKinnon looking to sit in guard and control but Mir gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mir throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
MacKinnon being controlled here, momentarily.

MacKinnon throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
MacKinnon wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Mir working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
MacKinnon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mir is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
MacKinnon trying to keep a closed guard but Mir is proving a slippery customer.
Mir trying to control the position from guard on top but MacKinnon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Mir scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Mir is keen to just control but MacKinnon is a slippery customer.
Mir drops an elbow to the side of MacKinnon's head.

Mir is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mir wants to control but MacKinnon is keeping him busy.

Mir is looking for a kimura but MacKinnon is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mir to get the leverage.
Mir looks gassed!
MacKinnon wants to improve his position but Mir is controlling well.
Mir wants to lay and pray for a moment but MacKinnon keeps working.
Mir trying to advance position but MacKinnon counters by regaining guard.
Mir trying to control but MacKinnon is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
MacKinnon tries for a takedown but Mir circles away easily

and Mir counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Mir tries to free his leg and advance position but MacKinnon is retaining full guard.
Mir wants to control from the top but MacKinnon keeps moving.
MacKinnon throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Mir thows a big elbow that misses.
MacKinnon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mir's guard.
MacKinnon working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mir's head.
MacKinnon with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Mir doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MacKinnon working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mir's head.
MacKinnon slips nicely into half guard.
MacKinnon lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. MacKinnon connects with a nice short shot to Mir's temple.
Mir tries to roll over but MacKinnon keeps him under control.
MacKinnon takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Mir is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of MacKinnon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take MacKinnon's back!
Mir controlling well, preventing MacKinnon from escaping the position.
MacKinnon looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Mir throwing damaging strikes from the back! MacKinnon could be in trouble here!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Hank Mir will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Mir shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mir showed some decent athleticism there.
MacKinnon is looking to improve his position.
Mir tries to pass to full mount but MacKinnon defends it.
Mir is controlling the pace.
Mir is pressing down on MacKinnon's thigh, looking to free his foot. MacKinnon is holding on for now.
MacKinnon manages to get to full guard.
Mir is breathing heavily.

MacKinnon looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mir wants to control from the top but MacKinnon keeps moving.
Mir sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Mir sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed MacKinnon's guard.
Mir wants to pass to mount but MacKinnon is defending the position.

Mir thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed MacKinnon's head.
Hank Mir has got the better of the ground game so far.
MacKinnon is pressing down on Mir's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

MacKinnon scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Mir is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on MacKinnon's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mir wants to improve his position but MacKinnon is controlling well.
Mir is looking to control MacKinnon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mir avoid being mounted?

MacKinnon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mir does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mir is looking to improve his position.
Mir moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
MacKinnon landing some decent shots from guard.
MacKinnon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

MacKinnon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mir looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mir throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
MacKinnon tries to get to full guard but Mir has control of the leg.

MacKinnon is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mir pulls his head out easily.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mir lands a nice short elbow.
Mir slips a nice elbow through MacKinnon's hands, connecting with MacKinnon's forehead.
Mir keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Mir is looking for a kimura here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hank Mir showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Mir takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

MacKinnon has taken the fight to the clinch.
MacKinnon gets underhooks to prevent Mir's takedown attempt.

MacKinnon has Mir pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. MacKinnon pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mir tumbling to the mat - MacKinnon dives into Mir's guard.
Mir lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for MacKinnon!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
MacKinnon tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Mir tries to control but MacKinnon wriggling away.

Mir has control of MacKinnon's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and MacKinnon regains control of the situation pretty easily.
MacKinnon throwing hammer fists to the chest of Mir. What's that going to do exactly?

Mir looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
MacKinnon working to try and regain half guard.
MacKinnon could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
MacKinnon is working hard here to advance position.

Mir lands a big shot there that rocks MacKinnon but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
A nice elbow there by Mir.
The referee warns MacKinnon that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Mir is landing with some decent strikes but MacKinnon is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Mir prevents MacKinnon from getting the reversal.
Mir is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. MacKinnon can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Mir has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of MacKinnon's face.
Mir lands a heavy elbow.

MacKinnon is squirming around, avoiding Mir's attempts to control the action.
MacKinnon working to try and regain half guard.
BOOM! Mir connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Mir wants to control the pace but MacKinnon is squirming around nicely.
MacKinnon is bucking up trying to escape but Mir cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Mir can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as MacKinnon is looking to escape.

Mir lands with some strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
BOOM! Mir connects with a massive shot to the dome!
MacKinnon is squirming around, avoiding Mir's attempts to control the action.
Daniel MacKinnon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mir looking to finish MacKinnon with some ground and pound. This is bad for MacKinnon!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Hank Mir.
I've got Mir winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
