Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerard Bazinet! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bogey James! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bazinet connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Bazinet misses with a body shot.
Bazinet looks to land a combination but James avoids it well. James will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. James fails with a takedown attempt. James shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bazinet but Bazinet pushes him off and we're back to square one. Gerard Bazinet has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bogey James. A punch combination from Bazinet misses. James takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
James drives through with a takedown into guard. James throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bazinet works some decent striking defense from the bottom. James avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. James throws a big elbow that misses. Bazinet will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. James tries to free his leg and advance position but Bazinet is retaining full guard. James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. James working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. James with a flurry of punches that miss. Bazinet manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. James manages to get himself to full guard.
Bazinet trying to control but James is working from the bottom. Bazinet with a flurry of punches that miss. James working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Bazinet. James has his feet on Bazinet's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bazinet misses with a jab, cross combination.
Bazinet really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Excellent takedown into side control there by James. James is chipping away with strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! James is working Bazinet over with some ground and pound from side control. James in side control, throwing shots but Bazinet defends. James grinds an elbow into Bazinet's temple. James landing a few strikes. James scoring with punches and elbows. James sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Bazinet is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Bazinet takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Bazinet is rocked! James looks up at the clock and then as Bazinet takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, James smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Oh Bazinet is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Bazinet tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but James wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. James cracks Bazinet with an elbow. That is naaassty. James cracks Bazinet with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! James immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Bazinet is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by James!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bogey James! During a confident post fight interview, Bogey James thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
