PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ringo Spar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alejandro Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spar's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, i Get Knocked Down, But i Get Up Again. Zapata has chosen Tres Delinquentes as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ringo Spar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alejandro Zapata!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spar misses with a wild body shot.
Zapata throws a series of punches but Spar moves out of range.
Spar looks to score with a jab to the body but Zapata is just out of range.
Zapata ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Zapata tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Spar throws a left and a right that both miss

and Zapata counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Spar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Zapata connects with a nice short shot to Spar's temple.

Zapata has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zapata manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Spar manages to get himself to full guard.

and Zapata counters with a three punch combo that has Spar backing up. Spar nods at Zapata to acknowledge the strikes.

Ringo Spar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spar throws a jab but it's blocked by Zapata.
A punch lands to the side of Zapata 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Zapata throws a leg kick but Spar checks it.
Spar keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Spar thows a left - swing and a miss!
Zapata clobbers Spar with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Zapata fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Spar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Zapata counters with a good low kick that Spar was not able to check.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zapata throws a leg kick which misses Spar's front leg but catches the back leg as Spar tries to avoid it.
Spar doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Zapata goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Zapata has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Spar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zapata has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Spar has managed to get both his arms back between Zapata's legs - danger averted.

Zapata working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Spar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Spar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Zapata is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Zapata had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Spar defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Alejandro Zapata will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Spar misses with a takedown attempt - Zapata sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ringo Spar is winning the standup battle so far.

Zapata maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Spar could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Zapata has cracked it and Spar is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Zapata!
