Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Denzel Washington! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 16 - 1, fighting out of New York, Tommy Fire! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Russell Pearce and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fire misses with a takedown attempt - Washington sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Fire fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Washington tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Fire manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Fire misses with the combination.

Fire shoots in but Washington avoids the takedown attempt easily. Denzel Washington has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy Fire. Fire shoots in but no luck this time. Washington tries to clinch but Fire moves out of range. Washington tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fire paws at him with a jab and circles away. Fire shoots in looking for a takedown but Washington manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fire's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Washington tries to clinch there but Fire circles away.
Fire closes the distance and clinches up with Washington, looking for a takedown. Fire pushes Washington against the cage but Washington circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. A head kick misses from Washington. Washington is looking to clinch. Fire bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Fire looks winded! Washington tries to buck Fire off but Fire is having none of it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Washington struggling a bit here.
That's one minute gone in the round. A lull in the action here. You can see the frustration on Washington's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Fire decides to stand back up. Fire steps back and let's Washington get back to his feet. Fire looks for a takedown but Washington sprawls well. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fire is defended easily by Washington. Washington lands a glancing blow to the side of Fire's head. Washington gets tackled into the cage by Fire. Fire maintains the clinch. Washington avoiding damage as Fire throws knees to the body.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Fire looking for a takedown. Washington throws a knee to the head but misses.

Washington misses with a hook from the clinch. Fire is looking to take this one to the mat. Washington is defending well against a takedown attempt. Fire is working for takedown but Washington is calmly controlling the position for now. Washington's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Washington listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Washington gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Fire to score an easy takedown into full guard. Washington is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Fire sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Washington looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Fire is working Washington over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Fire stands up over Washington, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Fire sitting in guard here, content to control. Let's hope that Fire has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Washington knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fire on the ground. Washington will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tommy Fire has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Washington tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Washington tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fire paws at him with a jab and circles away. Washington moves into range and clinches up with Fire. Washington prevents a takedown attempt there.

Washington misses with a knee to the head. Washington is pressed up against the cage. Fire has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Washington down to the mat. Washington avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Fire goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Fire tries to score a power double leg takedown but Washington sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fire somewhat. Fire shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Fire seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Washington wants to improve his position but Fire is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tommy Fire dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Washington moves in looking to clinch but Fire pushes him off. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Washington - that will leave a mark!

Fire chips away with some ground and pound. Fire is stalling in the full guard. Tommy Fire has got the better of the ground game so far. Fire decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Washington, up you get! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Washington is looking to clinch. Fire shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Fire showed some decent athleticism there. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Fire controlling the pace. Fire slips a nice elbow through Washington's hands, connecting with Washington's forehead. Washington trying to control but Fire postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fire controlling the action here. Fire decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Excellent takedown into side control there by Fire. Fire connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Washington some visible discomfort.
Washington is trying to get back to half guard. Washington is trying to control Fire's posture but Fire avoids it. Washington taking a bit of punishment here - Fire scoring with strikes. Fire controls the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Fire scoring with punches and elbows. Fire passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Washington! Fire controlling the position easily from mount. Fire landing strikes from the mount and Washington is in trouble! Fire breaks from Washington's wrist control and lands an elbow. Fire content just to control the position here. Fire quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Fire but it's paid off an Washington is forced to tap! Nice work by Fire.
