The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nunes fails with a takedown attempt.
Nunes shoots in for a double leg but Leonard sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Nunes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Leonard closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nunes to the mat! Nunes manages to get full guard.

Leonard gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Leonard darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Leonard is looking to advance position but Nunes won't allow it.
Nunes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Leonard scores with a couple of nice shots.
Leonard thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Leonard looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nunes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leonard uses his free foot to push down on Nunes's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Nunes.
Nunes wants to control but Leonard is having none of it.
