Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Kubiak! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tim Alvarez! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kubiak ducks under a wild hook from Alvarez. Alvarez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kubiak but Kubiak pushes him off and we're back to square one. Alvarez on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Alvarez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kubiak circles away. The fight stays on the outside here - Alvarez looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A clash of legs there as Kubiak blocks the low kick. Alvarez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Michael Kubiak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Alvarez. Kubiak lands a jab-cross combination. Kubiak lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Kubiak rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Alvarez moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Kubiak shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alvarez but Alvarez pushes him off and we're back to square one. Kubiak gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Alvarez throws a big elbow that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alvarez throws a big right hand that misses. Alvarez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kubiak is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Alvarez, into his guard. Kubiak postures up.
Alvarez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kubiak gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Kubiak won't allow Alvarez to sweep him here. Kubiak controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Kubiak trying to control the position from guard on top but Alvarez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Alvarez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alvarez has his foot on Kubiak's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kubiak works his way back into a safe position though. Alvarez keeping moving, preventing Kubiak from controlling successfully. Alvarez lands a decent shot there. Kubiak not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kubiak prevents Alvarez from getting back to his feet. Kubiak will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Alvarez strikes from his own guard. Kubiak postures up.

Kubiak got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alvarez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kubiak has managed to get both his arms back between Alvarez's legs - danger averted. Alvarez working for a triangle but Kubiak defends it easily.

Kubiak looking to control the position here, rather than advance. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kubiak can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Alvarez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kubiak trying to control but Alvarez is working from the bottom.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Kubiak slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Alvarez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kubiak doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kubiak manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Alvarez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Alvarez controls Kubiak momentarily but Kubiak frees himself. Kubiak stopping the sweep attempt from Alvarez. Alvarez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Kubiak trying to control from the bottom.
Nice strikes from Alvarez there. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Alvarez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Kubiak is breathing heavily.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Alvarez lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Alvarez wants to pass the guard but Kubiak is defending well. Alvarez not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Alvarez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Alvarez winds up and cracks Kubiak with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Kubiak is staying active underneath Alvarez, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Alvarez seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Kubiak is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
