Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Johan Bauwens! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fernando Weissenberg! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Weissenberg stuffs the takedown. Weissenberg fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bauwens to the ground. Weissenberg is now in Bauwens's guard. Weissenberg postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Weissenberg controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Bauwens throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Bauwens can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Weissenberg controls the pace. Bauwens keeping moving, preventing Weissenberg from controlling successfully.
Fernando Weissenberg has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Weissenberg changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bauwens looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Bauwens has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Weissenberg cracks Bauwens with a big elbow. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bauwens is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Weissenberg is controlling him well. Weissenberg working away. That's one minute gone in the round. Bauwens takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Weissenberg has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Weissenberg closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bauwens did well to prevent Weissenberg getting side control. Weissenberg looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Weissenberg connects with a nice short shot to Bauwens's temple.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bauwens has hold of Weissenberg's hands but Weissenberg slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. This has been an exciting period of action! Weissenberg trying to mount his opponent but Bauwens defends it. Bauwens is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Weissenberg lands with a punch from half guard. Weissenberg seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Weissenberg looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Weissenberg looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Weissenberg winds up and cracks Bauwens with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Weissenberg has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Bauwens is in a horrible position here. Weissenberg smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Bauwens tries to lock up and control but Weissenberg gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Weissenberg lands with some strikes. Weissenberg is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Bauwens can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Bauwens is bucking up trying to escape but Weissenberg cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Weissenberg lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Bauwens is rocked! Weissenberg unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Bauwens wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Weissenberg celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fernando Weissenberg! Fernando Weissenberg is the new lightweight champion!
