Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dy Batista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Shields!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields scores with a shot to the body.
Shields fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Batista manages to avoid it.
Nice cross by Batista.
Shields will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Batista misses with a jab, cross combination.
Shields looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Shields catches Batista with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Shields fails in his attempt to clinch.
Horrible takedown by Shields or perhaps it was just good defense by Batista which made him look bad.
Shields showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Batista.
Shields tries for a takedown but Batista sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Dy Batista has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Shields.
Shields tries to score a power double leg takedown but Batista sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shields somewhat.
Batista displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Shields throws out the jab.

Shields shoots in for a takedown but Batista shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Shields is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Batista.
Batista misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Shields closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Batista's guard.
Batista on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Batista tries to get out of the position.
Shields is looking to work some ground and pound but Batista has wrist control.

Shields lands a couple of elbows.
Shields wants to control from the top but Batista keeps moving.

Shields keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Batista's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shields slips nicely into half guard.
Shields not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Shields thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Shields has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Batista knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shields on the ground.
Shields seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Shields working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Shields performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Shields is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Batista is just riding it out for now. Shields eventually gives up the hold.
Shields seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Shields moves into full mount! Batista won't be happy about that!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Batista covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
