The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moneymaker manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Silva on his heels. He'll look to pass Silva's guard now, I'm sure.
Silva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Silva tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Moneymaker creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Moneymaker has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Moneymaker winds up and cracks Silva with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Moneymaker uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Silva tries to throw a body punch but Moneymaker avoids it by throwing Silva back against the cage.

Moneymaker shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Silva pinned against the cage. Silva gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Moneymaker blocks a head kick by Silva.
Silva wants to clinch up but Moneymaker keeps it at a distance.
Moneymaker moves into the clinch.
Silva is trying to drag Moneymaker to the mat but Moneymaker just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Moneymaker manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Silva rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Moneymaker moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Moneymaker decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Moneymaker has Silva up against the cage in a clinch.
Silva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Moneymaker shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Silva manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Moneymaker passes Silva's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Silva is in all sorts of trouble here.

Silva is rocked!
Moneymaker throws a nice looking combination but Silva bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Silva is still on wobbly legs! Can Moneymaker finish him?
Moneymaker scores with a decent looking hook.
Moneymaker shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! Silva is on queer street and Moneymaker is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!

Johan Moneymaker was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
