PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wranch Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nick Alves told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wranch Hammer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick Alves!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alves closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hammer did well to prevent Alves getting side control.
Hammer blocking the ground and pound attempt from Alves.

Alves is looking for a kimura but Hammer is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Alves to get the leverage.
Alves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hammer keeps working.
Alves is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Alves wants to work for an arm triangle but Hammer is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Alves sitting and controlling from the half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hammer is looking to improve his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nick Alves was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hammer is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hammer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Alves.

Hammer tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Alves counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hammer's guard now.
Alves controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Alves trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hammer keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully.
Alves is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nick Alves has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hammer tries to clinch up
and Alves counters with a stiff right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alves tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hammer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alves somewhat.
Hammer wants to clinch but Alves slips to the side

and Alves counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hammer won't be happy with that.
Alves in side control, throwing shots but Hammer defends.
Hammer dodges the ground and pound from Alves.

Alves decides to stand back up.
Wranch Hammer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Alves clinches up against the cage.
Hammer throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Alvess head.
Hammer tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Alves avoids it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hammer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Alves is trying to drag Hammer to the mat but Hammer just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Wranch Hammer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Alves.
Alves is trying to pull guard but Hammer has him pressed against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee is keeping an eye on Alves - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Hammer tries a knee to the head but Alves blocks it.
Alves on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Alves managing to block the knees to the body from Hammer.
Alves drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alves blocks an elbow strike.
Alves tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Alves drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hammer pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hammer changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alves changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hammer tries to avoid it but Alves manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hammer to the ground. Hammer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Alves dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hammer wants to clinch up but Alves keeps it at a distance.
Hammer darts in trying to clinch

and Alves counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hammer won't be happy with that.

Alves is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hammer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Nick Alves has got the better of the ground game so far.
Alves postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hammer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground.
Alves throws an elbow but Hammer slips to the side and avoids it well.
Alves has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Alves fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Alves is chipping away with strikes.
Alves tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Alves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hammer keeps working.
Hammer is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Alves is controlling him well.
Alves controlling from side mount.
Alves lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alves taking a break here but Hammer is having none of it and regains half guard.
Alves seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Alves is looking for a kimura here.
Hammer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alves.

Hammer is trying to stand up here but Alves is controlling him well.
Alves looks to land a strike but Hammer avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Alves working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Alves trying to control but Hammer is working from the bottom.
Alves missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Alves controlling from the top position.
Alves throws a big right hand that misses.
Alves not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Nick Alves wasn't active enough on the ground.

Alves forces Hammer back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Alves avoids the elbow strike from Hammer, against the cage.
Hammer gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Hammer tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Alves jumps guard but Hammer stands there with Alves around his waist. Alves gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Alves tries to score a body lock takedown but Hammer shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Hammer goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Danga de danga de dang - Alves scores with a four punch combination!
Alves shoots in and drives through. Hammer sprawls well.

Alves darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Alves trying to control from half guard but Hammer is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves prevents Hammer from standing back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alves thows a huge punch but Hammer dodges it nicely.

Alves is working for a submission of some sort.
Alves throws a strike but Hammer avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Alves is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nick Alves was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hammer darts in trying to clinch

and Alves counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Alves.
Hammer comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Hammer stops a takedown attempt from Alves.
Alves stalls.
Alves goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hammer prevents it.
Wranch Hammer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Alves.
Hammer lands a left hand.
Alves tries to stall but Hammer uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Hammer throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hammer lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Nick Alves has been cut.

Alves is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hammer can't fight it off and eventually Alves manages to take the fight to the floor. Hammer looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Alves throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hammer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hammer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Alves controls the pace.
Alves is working Hammer over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Alves throws an elbow that misses. Hammer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alves's guard. Nice move by Hammer!
Wranch Hammer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hammer gets to his feet. Alves looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Hammer's jab looks to have found its range, popping Alves under the eye.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Alves.
Alves scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Hammer to see if he's OK.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hammer takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Alves lands some shots froms side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nick Alves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Alves winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
