The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dawson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dawson looks for a takedown but Aldo sprawls well.
Dawson keeps the fight on the outside.
Dawson has closed the distance and engaged Aldo in a clinch.
Dawson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Aldo to keep the fight standing.

No joy there for Aldo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Aldo sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Dawson to the ground! Aldo dives into full mount looking to finish!

Dawson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A big strike lands for Aldo! That's really hurt Dawson and he's turned his back - Aldo keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Aldo jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Aldo!
A determined Jose Aldo didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
