PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rubin Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Virgil Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Hurricane. Rubin Carter has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Rubin Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Virgil Morgan!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter connects with the punch.
Carter pivots, looking for a leg kick but Morgan is out of range and Carter settles back down.
Morgan drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Morgan lands a nice leg kick that just misses Carter's sensitive parts.
Carter uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Morgan.
Carter waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Morgan.
Carter jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Morgan tries to land a front kick but Carter steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Morgan slips under a jab.
Morgan throws a series of strikes that have Carter backpedaling.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Morgan throws an overhand right that lands on Carter's shoulder, as Carter tries to avoid the shot.
Carter throws a left and a right that both miss

and Morgan counters with a takedown into side control.

Morgan is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Carter's shoulder. That is not cool.
Carter is looking for a sweep.

Morgan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Morgan content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Carter avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Morgan.
Morgan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Morgan is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Carter still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Carter has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Carter wants to control but Morgan is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carter throws a sloppy head kick and Morgan moves out of range easily.
Carter blocks the body kick.
Morgan tests Carter's chin there with a solid looking shot.

and Morgan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Morgan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Carter's guard.

Carter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Morgan throws an elbow that misses. Carter uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Morgan's guard. Nice move by Carter!

Carter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rubin Carter has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Carter uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Morgan has time to react.
Carter throws a low kick but Morgan avoids it.
Morgan feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Carter's calf.
Carter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Carter gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Morgan gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Morgan throwing shots but Carter is blocking nicely.
Morgan is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Morgan is trying to control the action in half guard but Carter is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Morgan is working for a submission of some sort.
Morgan misses with a head shot. Carter uses the momentum to regain guard.

Morgan connects with a couple of short punches.
Morgan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Carter keeping moving, preventing Morgan from controlling successfully.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carter is trying to keep Morgan in close.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Virgil Morgan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Carter moves out of range of the body kick from Morgan.

Morgan dodges an elbow strike from Carter.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Carter goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Carter wants to break the clinch but can't.
Carter tries to stall but Morgan uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Carter is trying to maintain a safe position but Morgan gets an underhook and turns Carter into the cage.
Carter blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Morgan tries for a takedown but Carter manages to get underhooks.
Morgan avoids a wild elbow strike from Carter.
Carter gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Morgan.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Morgan. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Carter lands with a short shot to the head.

Morgan struggles to land a body shot inside as Carter controls his hands.

Morgan's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Morgan dives in and scores a takedown into Carter's guard.
Morgan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Rubin Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Morgan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Morgan throws a strike but Carter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Morgan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Carter is trying to maintain the position but Morgan is very close to passing his half guard.

Morgan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Carter has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Morgan is working away from the top position though.
Morgan throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Carter to regain full guard.
Carter seems keen to control Morgan's posture.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I've got Morgan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Virgil Morgan opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
