PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rich Castellano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Colt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Castellano comes to the cage accompanied by Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone. Colt is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Just What I Am. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Castellano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roman Colt!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colt takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Roman Colt has been cut.
Colt checks a leg kick.
Castellano lands a lovely overhand right.
Castellano misses with a wild combination.
Colt tries for a takedown but Castellano sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A telegraphed right hand from Colt misses the target.
Castellano throws a right hand that misses
and Colt counters with a nice uppercut.
Colt checks the leg kick nicely there.
Nice takedown defense from Castellano. No joy for Colt on that attempt.
Colt closes the distance and lands a one-two.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Castellano connects with a leg kick. Colt looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Colt scores with a one two! Castellano had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Colt's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Castellano connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Colt scrambles back to his feet.
Castellano throws an overhand right that lands on Colt's shoulder, as Colt tries to avoid the shot.
Colt fails with the takedown
and Castellano counters with a nice low kick that buckles Colt's knee momentarily.
Rich Castellano has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roman Colt.
Colt moves away from the strike by Castellano.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Castellano pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Colt back to the cage. Castellano follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Rich Castellano is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Colt throws a looping overhand right but Castellano ducks down to avoid it.
Colt looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Castellano is fending him off so far but Colt persists. Nope, Castellano circles away and we're back to standing.

Some wild striking there from Castellano.
Colt ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Castellano moves away.
Left hook, right uppercut from Castellano.
A looping hook to the body misses from Colt. Castellano does a little dance to reset his feet.
Colt ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Nice straight punches there by Castellano. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Castellano.
Castellano moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Colt avoids a punch combination nicely.
Castellano stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Castellano wants it to stay on the feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Castellano throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Colt counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Castellano keeping moving, preventing Colt from controlling successfully.

Colt drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Castellano dives on top into guard.
Castellano trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Colt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Colt controls Castellano momentarily but Castellano frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Castellano tests Colt's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Colt shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Castellano counters with a nice uppercut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Castellano throws a combination that misses

and Colt counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Colt pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Castellano is keeping the position for now.
Colt in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Colt looking to pass the guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Colt drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Castellano dives on top into guard.
Colt throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rich Castellano will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Roman Colt's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Castellano throws a leg kick but Colt moved away.
Castellano throws a low kick, looking for Colt's leg but Colt calmly moves out of range.
Castellano misses with an uppercut.
Castellano getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Colt misses with a takedown attempt - Castellano sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A big right from Castellano misses.
Castellano throws a right hand that Colt ducks under and follows up with a left that Colt also avoids with ease.
Castellano rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Colt moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Colt displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Castellano throws out the jab.
Colt throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Castellano looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A slow jab from Castellano misses its intended target.
Colt moves away from the strike by Castellano.
Castellano misses with a series of wild punches.
Castellano misses with a right hand

and Colt counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Colt.

Colt passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Colt wants to take a breather but Castellano manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Colt.
Colt tries to free his leg and advance position but Castellano is retaining full guard.
Colt in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Castellano is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Colt is controlling him.
Colt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Castellano swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Colt is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Castellano is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Castellano has escaped and now he's on top!

Castellano avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Castellano forces his way into half guard.
Roman Colt has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Colt is looking to improve his position.
Colt is trying to maintain the position but Castellano is very close to passing his half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Colt tries to get to full guard but Castellano has control of the leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Colt is trying to control but can't.
Colt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Colt is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Roman Colt wasn't active enough on the ground.
Colt slips a jab from Castellano.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Castellano feints a jab promting Colt to slip. Castellano then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Colt slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Rich Castellano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No joy there for Castellano, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Roman Colt will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Roman Colt's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Castellano lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Castellano lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Rich Castellano is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Colt fails with a takedown attempt.
Colt digs a good hook to Castellano's body.
Castellano looks to throw the jab but Colt is out of range.

Colt drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Colt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Castellano keeps working.

Colt goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Castellano rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Colt's guard! Nice work there by Castellano!

Castellano looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Colt wants to stand but Castellano is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Colt throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Castellano escapes and throws Colt's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Colt is not content to let Castellano control the position.
Colt is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Colt wants to control but Castellano postures up.
Colt tries to buck Castellano off but Castellano is having none of it.
Castellano takes a little break here. Colt wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Colt is trying to get back to half guard.
Castellano knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Colt on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
The fighters circling - Castellano throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Colt ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Castellano moves away.
Castellano swings widly with a right hand
and Colt counters with a stiff right hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Roman Colt.
I think Colt has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
