PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Rathman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rathman comes to the cage accompanied by Nothing Else Matters - Metallica. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Rathman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Big Joe! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joe throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Joe lands a nice looking body kick. Joe throws a right and a left that Rathman avoids nicely. Good leg kick by Joe there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Joe bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Rathman is breathing heavily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Joe lands a with a good body shot. Big Joe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rathman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Joe's guard. Rathman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Rathman wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving. Rathman slips nicely into half guard.
Joe is defending against the submission attempts here by Rathman.
Joe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rathman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rathman is looking for a kimura here.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Joe is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Joe is trying to maintain the position but Rathman is very close to passing his half guard. Rathman could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Joe is trying to get back to full guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Rathman is pressing down on Joe's thigh, looking to free his foot. Joe is holding on for now. Joe looks like he's trying to stand up.
 It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Joe scores with a kick to the midsection.
A big head kick from Joe and Rathman is sent sprawling to the canvas!

Rathman is rocked!

It looks like Tom Rathman has been cut. Joe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Oh Rathman is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Rathman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Joe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Rathman is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rathman is trying to work for a kimura but Joe is defending well.
Rathman seems to have got his legs back now.
Rathman is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Joe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rathman.
Rathman seems to be looking for submissions.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Rathman is tying to control. Joe wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Joe is trying to stand back up but Rathman is controlling him
Rathman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Rathman seems to be looking for submissions.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.
Big Joe dominated that round. The cut man is working on Tom Rathman's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Joe with a nice cross. Joe drops Rathman with a right and a left! Joe comes rushing in but Rathman regains his composure and manages to keep Joe in guard.

Rathman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Joe manages to get himself to full guard.
Joe preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rathman trying to control but Joe is working from the bottom. Rathman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Joe is keeping the position for now.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Rathman is working hard here to advance position. Rathman stopping the sweep attempt from Joe.

 The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Joe lands a head kick!
A lazy left from Joe finds it's target. A chopping leg kick lands by Joe. A punch lands to the side of Rathman 's head but he takes it in his stride. Rathman shoots in for a double leg but Joe sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rathman gets a takedown into half guard. Rathman wants to pass the guard but Joe is defending well.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Rathman works his way into side control.
Rathman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Joe, who protects the arm well.
Rathman has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Joe is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Rathman yanks on the arm and Joe is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Rathman.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tom Rathman!
