PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Igor Ivanovich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kjell Dillon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dillon has chosen Pipes & Drums 1st Battalion Scots Guards as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Igor Ivanovich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kjell Dillon!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ivanovich slips a jab and a cross from Dillon.
Dillon throws a jab but it's blocked by Ivanovich.
A left and a right from Dillon both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Igor Ivanovich has been cut.
Dillon throws a shot from downtown. Ivanovich moves away and avoids it.
Ivanovich ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dillon moves away.
Some wild striking there from Dillon.
Dillon lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Dillon drops Ivanovich with a left right combo! Dillon follows him down to the ground into side control.


Ivanovich is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sloppy strikes there by Dillon.
An elbow from Dillon crashes against the mat.
Dillon has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Dillon trying to control the position but Ivanovich is working away.
Dillon is trying to ground and pound but Ivanovich uses the momentary lack of control by Dillon to regain half guard.

Let's hope that Dillon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kjell Dillon hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ivanovich thows a body shot but no joy.
Ivanovich misses with an uppercut
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Dillon throws a head kick but Ivanovich moves out of range.
Ivanovich throws a head kick that misses.
That kick from Ivanovich tenderised Dillon's leg. Dillon is trying to keep his angry face on.
Dillon walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Ivanovich checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Dillon scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Ivanovich, right into the meat.
Igor Ivanovich is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Dillon drops his shoulder and cracks Ivanovich with a huge uppercut! Ivanovich goes down! Can Dillon finish him?
Oh Ivanovich is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

It looks like Dillon might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Ivanovich seems to have got his legs back now.

Dillon won't allow Ivanovich to sweep him here.
Dillon throwing strikes from guard but Ivanovich blocks nicely.
Ivanovich can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dillon controls the pace.

Dillon wants to control from the top but Ivanovich keeps moving.

Dillon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kjell Dillon.
Dillon fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ivanovich looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Dillon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ivanovich is fending him off so far but Dillon persists. Nope, Ivanovich circles away and we're back to standing.
Dillon blocks the body kick.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dillon scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Ivanovich is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dillon loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Igor Ivanovich's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ivanovich has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ivanovich there as he acknowledges the shot.

Ivanovich fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dillon, pushing him back against the cage.

Dillon has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ivanovich regains guard immediately.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dillon throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dillon keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ivanovich's head.
Dillon trying to control the position from guard on top but Ivanovich is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dillon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dillon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dillon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dillon wants to control from the top but Ivanovich keeps moving.
Dillon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Dillon is looking to work some ground and pound but Ivanovich has wrist control.

Kjell Dillon has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Dillon lands with a shot to the body.

Ivanovich throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Dillon misses the jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ivanovich looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ivanovich moves in looking to clinch but Dillon pushes him off.
Ivanovich takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
No joy there for Dillon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ivanovich takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


Igor Ivanovich's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
A swing and a miss from Dillon.
Ivanovich takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Dillon throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ivanovich stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Dillon fails with a takedown attempt.
Dillon lands a really nice looking cross but Ivanovich seems unphased.


Jeez, Igor Ivanovich's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Dillon throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ivanovich.
Dillon pounces like a tiger and cracks Ivanovich with a vicious hook! Ivanovich is down but not out! Dillon follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Kjell Dillon!
Kjell Dillon decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
