Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andrew Clark! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jose Mera! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clark cracks Mera with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Mera takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Clark throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mera shoots in but Clark avoids the takedown attempt easily. Mera blocks a head kick by Clark.
Clark throws a leg kick but Mera checks it. Nice shot lands for Clark. Clark connects with a high kick. Mera avoids the head kick by Clark.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mera closes the distance and clinches up with Clark, looking for a takedown. Mera pushes Clark against the cage but Clark circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Mera shoots in for a takedown but Clark shows good takedown defense. Andrew Clark has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Mera. Clark scores with a push kick. Mera avoids the head kick by Clark.
Clark dodges the punch combination from Mera.
Mera avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clark connects with a high kick. Clark lands with a kick to the temple. Mera shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" A big right from Mera misses. Clark circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Mera drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Clark follows Mera to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andrew Clark! Andrew Clark retains his featherweight title! A very excited looking Andrew Clark rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
