PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chip Freedom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Curtis Dent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freedom comes into the arena with Star Spangled Banner blaring out of the sound system. Dent has chosen Powertrip as his entrance music. Curtis Dent struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.0lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chip Freedom! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Curtis Dent! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Lou da Vinci and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dent walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Freedom checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Freedom closes the distance and clinches. Freedom tries to score a body lock takedown but Dent shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Freedom throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dent blocks it with crossed arms. Freedom stalling.
A knee to the head by Freedom.
It looks like Curtis Dent has been cut. Dent trying to land knees to the body.
Freedom lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Dent backwards. Dent avoiding damage as Freedom throws knees to the body.
Dent prevents a takedown attempt there.
Freedom blocks an elbow strike from Dent.
Freedom avoiding damage.
Dent throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Dent misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Freedom.
Freedom turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Freedom tries to move to mount but Dent blocks the move with his legs. Freedom remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dent is working to avoid the ground and pound but Freedom connects with a decent elbow. Dent is not content to let Freedom control the position. Dent managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Freedom.
Freedom working away. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Dent tries to get back to half guard but can't. Freedom throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Dent can't do much from the bottom here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Freedom postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Freedom attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Dent scores with a jab. Dent stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Freedom. Freedom gets a takedown into half guard. Freedom not landing any meaningful shots this time. Freedom looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Freedom seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dent does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Freedom controlling the action here. Dent is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Freedom scores with a couple of nice shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Freedom throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Freedom sitting and controlling from the half guard. Freedom wants to take a breather but Dent is having none of it. Dent is trying to stand up here but Freedom is controlling him well. Freedom slows the pace down in half guard. Freedom stops Dent from getting back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Freedom throwing shots but Dent is blocking nicely.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Dent gets caught flat footed, as Freedom shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Freedom working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Freedom pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dent is keeping the position for now. Dent tries to land a sweep but no joy. Dent looks gassed! Freedom throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Freedom throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dent works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Freedom has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Freedom looking to pass the guard. Freedom might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Dent is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chip Freedom dominated that round. The cut man is working on Curtis Dent's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Dent misses with a hook. Freedom ducked under it nicely. Freedom misses with a head kick.
Freedom swings for the body but Dent moves out of range.
Dent swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Freedom throws a head kick that misses. Freedom avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Dent is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Freedom throws a half hearted mid kick. Dent swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dent blocks a head kick by Freedom.
Freedom throws a leg kick that is checked and Dent makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Dent is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Some bone on bone action there as Dent checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Dent throws a hook to the side of Freedom's head but Freedom sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Freedom throws a head kick that misses. Freedom scores with a push kick. Dent walks forward, straight into a front kick from Freedom. Dent is breathing heavily. Freedom shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Freedom prevents Dent from getting the reversal. Freedom working Dent over with strikes here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dent keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Freedom looking to control but Dent is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Dent really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Freedom. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Dent is bucking up trying to escape but Freedom cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Freedom is working for a guillotine from mount but Dent frees his head quite easily.
Freedom can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dent is looking to escape. Freedom thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Freedom throws some wild stikes that Dent manages to avoid easily.
Dent tries to hold on but Freedom postures up. Freedom trying to control but he's not successful this time. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Freedom cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Dent regains half guard. Freedom trying to control the action but Dent is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Freedom lands a nice short elbow. Dent tries to roll over but Freedom keeps him under control. Freedom wants to take a breather but Dent is having none of it. Freedom takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Dent has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Freedom is working away from the top position though. Freedom moves nicely into side control. Freedom looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Freedom working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Dent is trying to work for a sweep but Freedom has mounted him! Freedom postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Dent looks a forlorn figure.
Freedom lands a nice shot to the head.
Dent is rocked! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee warns Dent that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Dent is still in real trouble! Can Freedom finish him? Freedom controlling from mount. Freedom cracks Dent with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chip Freedom!
