PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lukas Popolski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cory Jester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Popolski might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Mama said knock you out. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lukas Popolski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cory Jester!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Popolski leaves Jester with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Popolski works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Jester throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Popolski.
Some wild striking there from Popolski.
A punch lands to the side of Jester 's head but he takes it in his stride.


It looks like Cory Jester has been cut.
Jester swings widly with a right hand

and Popolski counters with a takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Popolski tries to stand but Jester is controlling his head.
Popolski misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Jester sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jester wants to control but Popolski is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Popolski seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jester does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Popolski seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Jester throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Popolski to regain full guard.

Jester seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Jester not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's time! Popolski's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Jester shoots in for a takedown but Popolski shows good takedown defense.

and Jester counters with a head kick.

and Popolski counters with a three punch combo that has Jester backing up. Jester nods at Popolski to acknowledge the strikes.

Popolski lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jester is working for a submission of some sort.

Jester seems to be working for a kimura but Popolski defends the submission attempt.
Jester not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jester takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jester trying to control from half guard but Popolski is working away.
Jester content to control rather than advance.
Jester tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jester looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

We're going to have a standup here because Lukas Popolski wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jester takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Jester shoots for a takedown but Popolski saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Jester feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cory Jester hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A jab lands there for Popolski.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cory Jester showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Popolski feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jesters jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Jester takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Jester shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jester throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Popolski's waist but Popolski gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jester off to one side.
Popolski fails with the takedown.
Jester is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Popolski.
Lukas Popolski is winning the standup battle so far.
Popolski misses with a series of wild punches.
Popolski throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Jester shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Popolski as he jumps to the side.
Lukas Popolski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cory Jester.
Jester fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jester takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Popolski keeps the fight on the outside.

Popolski lands a jab-cross combination.

Popolski catches Jester with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Popolski will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Popolski stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Popolski wants it to stay on the feet.

Jester shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Popolski manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Jester wants to control from the top but Popolski keeps moving.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Well, if Jester is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Jester is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Popolski has managed to free his arm - good work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jester connects with a nice short shot to Popolski's temple.

Jester moves nicely into side control.
Jester looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Popolski is avoiding damage well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jester stands up.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Cory Jester.
I think Jester has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
