Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
18 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kel Varnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Quasar Killer!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Killer darts in trying to clinch
and Killer takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Killer tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Varnson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Killer wants to clinch
and Varnson counters with a two punch combo.
Killer connects with a leg kick. Varnson looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Killer closes the distance looking to clinch
and Varnson counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Killer wants to clinch
and Varnson counters with a really nice, stiff jab that drops Killer onto his ass. He'll have to take the mandatory count from the referee but he's back on his feet and he seems OK to continue.
Killer is rocked!
It looks like Quasar Killer has been cut.
Varnson cracks Killer with a perfect right hand that drops him to the mat! Killer is sitting up but I can't see if he's OK from my position. The referee's count has reached 5,6,7 and Killer is still not up. Can he make it? 8,9, he's up! Wow, he cut that one a bit fine!
Killer is still on wobbly legs! Can Varnson finish him?
Varnson throws a leg kick but Killer checks it.
Killer seems to have recovered his senses.
Varnson is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Killer scores with a nice right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Varnson throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Varnson tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Killer is able to avoid easily.
Killer tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Varnson counters with a right hand from hell and Killer is out cold! A vicious knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kel Varnson!
