Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yuri Joel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Buckley Starchwhite! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Starchwhite shoots for a double leg takedown but Joel sprawls well. He's pushed Starchwhite's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Starchwhite misses with a takedown attempt - Joel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Starchwhite has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Joel. Starchwhite looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Yuri Joel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Buckley Starchwhite. Donk. Joel catches Starchwhite right on the button with a cross. Joel lands with an overhand left. Starchwhite walks forward, straight into a front kick from Joel.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joel tries to clinch up. Starchwhite dives in and grabs Joel's left leg, looking for a takedown. Joel pushes down on Starchwhite's head and hops out. Joel scores with a leg kick.
Starchwhite shoots for a takedown but Joel saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Joel really is a fat lump. Joel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Starchwhite. Starchwhite shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Joel defends it nicely. Starchwhite looks winded! Joel moves into range and connects with a jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Starchwhite tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Joel swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Starchwhite. Joel slaps away a takedown attempt from Starchwhite, before circling back to the center of the mat. Joel closes the distance but Starchwhite moves to the side and Starchwhite counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Joel throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joel had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Starchwhite defends it easily. Starchwhite throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Joel works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Joel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Joel has his feet on Starchwhite's thighs here. He's pushed Starchwhite off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Starchwhite screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Yuri Joel! A relieved looking Yuri Joel thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
