PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Minto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Dope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dave Minto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tom Dope!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Minto closes the distance and clinches.
Dope pressing his opponent against the cage.
Minto throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Dope wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Dope breaks from the clinch.

Minto decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Dope is trying to stand up here but Minto is controlling him well.
Minto could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dope is trying to get back to full guard.
Minto with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Dave Minto wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Minto closes the distance and pushes Dope back into the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Minto wants to break the clinch but can't.
Minto is trying to break the clinch but Dope has him pressed against the cage.
Dope trying to stall but Minto improves his position.
Dope with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Minto stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Minto wants the takedown. Dope is fighting it off but Minto persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dope's guard against the cage.
Minto engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Dope tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Minto controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Dave Minto just wasn't active enough.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Minto.
Minto wants to stand but Dope has his arm trapped.
The referee asks Minto politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Minto prefers to stall for the moment though.
Dope really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Minto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Minto wants to control but Dope is keeping him busy.
Minto lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Dope down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Minto grinds an elbow into Dope's temple.
The strikes coming from Minto are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Dope is looking for a sweep.
Dope looks winded!
Minto content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Minto works to advance to full mount. Dope defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Minto tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Minto dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Minto tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dope was well out of range. Poor timing from Minto.
Minto throws a series of punches but Dope avoids them all with ease.
Minto throws a jab but it's blocked by Dope.
Dope slips a jab from Minto.
Minto swats away the attempt to clinch by Dope.
Dope tries to close the distance and clinch up but Minto swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Minto keeps the fight on the outside.
Minto looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Minto closes the distance and pushes Dope back into the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dope keeps control of Minto as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Dope escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dope throws a one two combo.
Dope tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Minto counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Minto has Dope pressed against the cage.

Minto pulls Dope into guard.
Minto keeping moving, preventing Dope from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Minto is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Dope rolls with it to try and escape but Minto cranks on the arm and Dope is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dave Minto!
A relieved looking Dave Minto thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
