1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yawny Bendricks! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jorge Garcia and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch combination from Bendricks misses. Bendricks getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
It looks like Daniel Powell has been cut. Powell looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Bendricks looking for submissions off his back. Powell not landing any meaningful shots this time. Bendricks looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bendricks is trying to control but can't.
Powell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bendricks on the ground. Bendricks looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Bendricks pushes Powell off and gets back to his feet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bendricks stuns Powell with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bendricks misses with a wild body shot. Bendricks fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bendricks keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Powell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Powell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! You can see the frustration on Bendricks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Bendricks manages to work his way to half guard, despite Powell 's best efforts. Bendricks looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Bendricks is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Powell pulls his head out easily. The fighters are battling for position here. Bendricks manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bendricks manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bendricks is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Powell to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Powell shrugs it off. Bendricks is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Powell is surviving well by controlling Bendricks's body position as best he can. Bendricks is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Bendricks!
