PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sam Harper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Port (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Harper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Henry Port!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harper changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Port tries to avoid it but Harper manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Port to the ground. Port escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Port feints and as Harper raises his hands in defense, Port changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Harper wants to stand up but Port is controlling him.
Harper really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Harper is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Port dives into side control.
Harper is trying to buck Port off.
Harper misses with a strike from the bottom.
Harper is pushing Port's head away, looking to escape. Port manages to hold on to the position though.
Harper is trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Harper tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harper covering up well under a series of strikes from Port.
Port controlling from the back.
Port throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harper is trying to get back to his feet but Port has full control of the position and if anything, Harper has just worked his way into a worse spot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Good control from Port.
Harper holding both Port 's hands and preventing any damage.
Port has good solid back control here.
Port trying to control.
Port misses with an elbow to the head.
Harper trying to control the action but Port just sinks the hooks in.
Port is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Port tries to get the hooks in deep but Harper pushed the leg off.
Harper controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Harper is in bad spot here.
Port gets his hands free as Harper looks to control.
Harper holding both Port 's hands and preventing any damage.
Port throwing wild punches that miss their target.
Harper is trying to get back to his feet but Port has full control of the position and if anything, Harper has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Harper is breathing heavily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Port dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Port manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Harper on his heels. He'll look to pass Harper's guard now, I'm sure.
Port stops Harper from standing up.
Harper keeping moving, preventing Port from controlling successfully.
Port won't allow Harper to get back to his feet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Port accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Harper wants to sweep here but Port controlling him for the moment.
Port passes into half guard.
Harper looks like he's trying to stand up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Port throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Port stalling.
Port thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Harper is trying to stand up here but Port is controlling him well.
Port throwing shots but Harper is blocking nicely.
Port works his foot free and advances to mount.
Port controlling the pace for now.
Poor strikes thrown by Port there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Harper is trying to stand up.
Port looking to control and managing it successfully.
Port tries to control but Harper wriggling away.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Port controlling the position easily from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harper squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Port trying to control but he's not successful this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Henry Port.
Harper tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Port shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Harper is trying to defend but Port finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Port trying to control the action but Harper is working from the bottom.
Port is looking to stall here but Harper recovers full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Port prevents Harper from getting back to his feet.
Port trying to control the position from guard on top but Harper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Harper pushes Port off and gets back to his feet.

Port closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Harper quickly recovers to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Port is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Port showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Port drives through with a takedown into Harper's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Harper wants to stand but Port is controlling the position.
Port trying to control but Harper is working from the bottom.

Harper pushes Port off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Harper misses with a takedown attempt - Port sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Port feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Henry Port has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Harper kicks Port off and gets to his feet.
Some wild striking there from Port.

Port clinches up against the cage.

Port breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Port moves into the clinch successfully.

Port gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Port seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
It looks like Port is going to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Harper wants to get back to his feet.
Port thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Harper's head.
Port keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Port stops Harper from getting back to his feet.
Harper is not content to let Port control the position.
Harper avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Port.
Port moves nicely into side control.

Port decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Port darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Harper wants to get back to his feet.

Port stands up out of the half guard.
Harper tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Port paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Harper avoids the head kick by Port.
Harper lands a head kick!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Port misses with a jab, cross combination.

Port drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Port trying to control but Harper is working from the bottom.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Harper is looking to stand up but Port isn't so interested in that idea.
Port looking to sit in guard and control but Harper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harper wants to stand but Port has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Henry Port comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Port has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
