PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between King Marvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yamapi Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marvin comes to the cage accompanied by King of Kings by Motorhead. The crowd seem to be enjoying Chan's choice of entrance music: Ikenai Tayou. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, King Marvin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yamapi Chan!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marvin lands a glancing blow to the side of Chan's head.
A big left from Chan misses.
Chan uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Marvin.
Marvin takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Marvin is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Marvin misses with a straight left.
Chan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Marvin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Marvin lands with a nice body punch.
Marvin doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Marvin missing with a left hand there. Chan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Chan ducks under a wild hook from Marvin.
Chan walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Marvin checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Chan's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Marvin connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Chan scrambles back to his feet.

Marvin gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Marvin throws a lazy right hand but Chan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Chan takes one on the button.
Marvin doesn't manage to clinch there - Chan circles away.
Chan cracks the inside of Marvin's front leg.
Marvin misses with a shot to the body
and Chan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


It looks like King Marvin has been cut.
Chan digs a good body shot into Marvin's ribs.
Marvin misses with a takedown attempt - Chan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Marvin lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Marvin.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Chan wants to sweep here but Marvin controlling him for the moment.
Marvin content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Chan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Marvin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Marvin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Marvin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Marvin pulls his head out easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

That was a close round but I would say that King Marvin will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Marvin has a takedown stuffed.
Chan avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Marvin throws a hook but Chan blocks it.
Chan slips under a jab.
Marvin avoids the head kick by Chan.
Chan fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Marvin.
Marvin thows a left - swing and a miss!
Marvin tries to clinch up but Chan circles away and keeps his distance.
Chan keeps the fight on the outside.
Marvin is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Marvin misses with an uppercut.
Chan keeps Marvin at a distance using the push kick.
Marvin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Chan scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Chan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Chan lands a nice looking kick to the body. Marvin takes a step back to recover.
Marvin works Chan's body with a nice hook.
Chan takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Chan lands a nice leg kick that just misses Marvin's sensitive parts.
Chan misses with a body kick.
Chan catches Marvin with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Marvin dives in and scores a takedown into Chan's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Chan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Marvin is in close to Chan's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Chan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Marvin defends it easily.
Marvin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Marvin is working Chan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Marvin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chan keeps working.

Chan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Marvin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marvin is putting a hurting on Chan here, landing some big shots from side control.
Chan takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Chan is trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

King Marvin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Marvin connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Chan some visible discomfort.

and Marvin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Marvin ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Chan misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Marvin digs a right hand underneath Chan's ribcage. Chan let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Marvin can't find room to land a body shot as Chan controls the action.

Chan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A nice inside leg kick there by Chan. That's going to slow Marvin down.
Marvin is looking to clinch but Chan is avoiding it.
Chan slips under a jab.
Marvin ducks under a wild hook from Chan.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Marvin.
Chan scores with a body shot.
The fighters circling - Marvin throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Marvin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chan circles away from the clinch attempt
and Chan counters with a slapping leg kick.
Marvin misses the jab.
Chan throws a sloppy head kick and Marvin moves out of range easily.

and Chan counters with a thumping low kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Marvin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Marvin lands in his opponent's guard.

Chan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Marvin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but King Marvin did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Marvin throws a hook to the side of Chan's head but Chan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Marvin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Chan.

Chan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Chan misses with an attempted mid kick.
Chan tries to work over Marvin's front leg with a kick but Marvin checks it.
Marvin scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Chan lands a leg kick that knocks Marvin off balance momentarily.
Chan lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Marvin connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Chan's hands.

Marvin darts in and clinches Chan up against the cage.
Marvin is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Chan misses with a hook from the clinch.
Marvin blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

A short uppercut from Chan.

Chan breaks the clinch.
Chan pivots, looking for a leg kick but Marvin is out of range and Chan settles back down.
Marvin takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Marvin wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

King Marvin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Marvin throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chan sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Chan takes a swing at Marvin's ribcage but misses.
Chan tries to work over Marvin's front leg with a kick but Marvin checks it.
Chan throws the left hand but Marvin avoids the punch easily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chan throws a hook but Marvin avoids it easily.
Chan swats away the attempt to clinch by Marvin.
Chan tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Marvin is able to avoid easily.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Marvin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
