PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Fire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matti Ciechu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matti Ciechu told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 16 - 1, fighting out of New York, Tommy Fire!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matti Ciechu!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Joseph Jones and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fire scores with a head kick.

Fire fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ciechu sprawls well initially but Fire persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Fire is thwarting Ciechu's attempts to control the position.
Ciechu is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fire looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Fire has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fire chips away with some ground and pound.
Fire postures up in Ciechu's guard and throws a big left but Ciechu blocks it.
Ciechu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Fire's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Fire has hold of one of Ciechu's legs. Ciechu is fighting the takedown attempt but Fire gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Fire gets to his feet - Ciechu follows without any prompting.
Fire leaves Ciechu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Tommy Fire.
Fire shoots in looking for a takedown. Ciechu tries to sprawl out of it but Fire keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ciechu manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Fire manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ciechu on his heels. He'll look to pass Ciechu's guard now, I'm sure.

Ciechu had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fire defends it easily.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Tommy Fire just wasn't active enough.
Fire looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ciechu is fending him off so far but Fire persists. Nope, Ciechu circles away and we're back to standing.

Fire closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Fire is looking to take a break and control but Ciechu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tommy Fire overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Fire decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Fire shoots for a double leg takedown but Ciechu sprawls well. He's pushed Fire's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Fire is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ciechu is surviving well by controlling Fire's body position as best he can.

Ciechu decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fire moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Fire escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ciechu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Fire bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Fire decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ciechu to his feet.
Fire throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ciechu fails with a takedown attempt.

Oooooh!!! Fire has knocked Ciechu down with a huge combo! Fire steps away and waves a wobbly Ciechu back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fire takes a little break here. Ciechu wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Ciechu is not content to let Fire control the position.
Ciechu stops Fire from passing to mount.
Fire in side control, throwing shots but Ciechu defends.
Ciechu managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Fire.

Fire is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ciechu is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Fire throws an elbow but Ciechu slips to the side and avoids it well.

That's time! Fire's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Fire drops Ciechu with a beautiful combination! Ciechu stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Fire is looking for the KO!

Fire is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Ciechu is in big trouble! Fire is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Ciechu. Poor guy.
