2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Patton! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boogie gets the takedown into side control. Patton tries to bench press Boogie off him but Boogie keeps the position. Patton is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Boogie trying to control the position but Patton is working away. Boogie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Boogie tries to stand but Patton is controlling his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boogie looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Patton is avoiding damage well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boogie stands up and beckons Patton to his feet. Jason Patton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Patton is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Boogie. Boogie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Patton takes a swing at Boogie's ribcage but misses. Patton ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. A punch combination from Patton misses. Boogie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Patton tries to avoid it but Boogie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Patton to the ground. Patton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Patton avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Boogie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Patton but Patton pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patton tries to bum rush Boogie with a series of wild strikes but Boogie uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Patton fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Boogie manages to avoid it. Patton takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Patton stuffs the takedown attempt from Boogie. Boogie gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pat Boogie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Boogie shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Boogie showed some decent athleticism there. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Boogie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Patton does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Boogie not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Boogie is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Patton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Pat Boogie just wasn't active enough. Patton throws a nice looking combination but Boogie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Patton shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Boogie tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patton swats him away and circles back towards the center. Boogie shoots in looking for a takedown but Patton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Boogie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Boogie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Boogie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Patton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Boogie somewhat. Boogie moves into the clinch. Patton has picked Boogie up - he's going for a ride! Patton dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Boogie is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Patton's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Patton's back! Patton is keeping busy.

You can see the frustration on Boogie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Boogie manages to work his way to half guard, despite Patton's best efforts. Patton throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Boogie to regain full guard. Boogie has momentary wrist control but Patton slips an elbow through the middle. Boogie wants to control the position but Patton says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Boogie is trying to control but can't.
Boogie works his way to full guard. Good work. Patton trying to control but Boogie is working from the bottom. Boogie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Boogie is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boogie throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Pat Boogie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Boogie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Patton can do anything to dispel that myth.

Patton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. He'll look to pass Boogie's guard now, I'm sure. Boogie is trying to control the position but Patton postures up. Patton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Boogie is looking for a triangle but Patton pushes his legs off easily.

That could spell trouble for Patton! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Patton has given up his back here.
