PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gab Junior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sweaty Mullins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Junior kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is SOLDIERS HEART. Gab Junior has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gab Junior!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sweaty Mullins!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Columbo Gatti and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circle momentarily. Junior darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Sweaty Mullins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Junior clinches with his opponent.
Mullins misses with a short punch on the inside.

Junior pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mullins tries to clinch up.
Junior keeps the fight on the outside.
Mullins shoots in looking for a takedown but Junior manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mullins's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Junior's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Junior duly obliges.


It looks like Sweaty Mullins has been cut.
Junior lands a nice leg kick that just misses Mullins's sensitive parts.

Junior moves into range and clinches up with Mullins.
Mullins tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mullins has hold of one of Junior's legs. Junior is fighting the takedown attempt but Mullins gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Mullins avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Junior wants to sweep but no luck.
Junior trying to control the position.
Mullins trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Mullins wants to control from the top but Junior keeps moving.

Mullins is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Junior is on top in guard.
Junior scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Junior trying to control but Mullins is working from the bottom.

Junior got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mullins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Junior has managed to get both his arms back between Mullins's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mullins is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Mullins is staying active underneath Junior, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Junior is working for a kimura but Mullins is defending it quite comfortably.
Junior tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mullins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Junior is trying to control. Mullins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mullins tries to roll over but Junior keeps him under control.
Junior has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Junior is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mullins sees it coming and defends easily.
Junior looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mullins with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Junior drops an elbow to the side of Mullins's head.

Junior is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mullins doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Junior.
It looks like Junior is going to stand back up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Junior wants to control but Mullins is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Junior tries to close the distance and clinch but Mullins swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mullins fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A nice leg kick lands there from Junior.
Mullins wants to clinch up but Junior keeps it at a distance.
Junior tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mullins swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Junior has closed the distance and engaged Mullins in a clinch.

Mullins breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mullins on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Mullins closes the distance and clinches up with Junior, looking for a takedown. Mullins pushes Junior against the cage but Junior circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

No luck for Mullins with that takedown attempt.
Mullins steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Junior.

Junior manages to break the clinch.

Junior moves into range and clinches up with Mullins.

Junior breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mullins has managed to clinch.
Junior lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Mullins has Junior pressed against the cage, preventing Junior from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Mullins wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mullins creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Mullins has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Junior avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Gab Junior has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sweaty Mullins.
Mullins has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Junior is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Mullins misses with a punch to the body.
Mullins's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Junior lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Mullins.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A short right hand to the side of the head by Junior.
Junior gets underhooks to prevent Mullins's takedown attempt.
Mullins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Junior smiles and moves away.
Mullins is breathing heavily.

The fight stays on the outside here - Junior looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Junior connects with an inside leg kick.

Junior closes the distance and pushes Mullins back into the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Mullins trying to control the position but instead, Junior has worked for underhooks and has pushed Mullins into the cage.
Mullins lands a right hand that snaps the head of Junior backwards.

Junior breaks the clinch.
Mullins tries to clinch but Junior moves out of range.
Mullins dodges the punch combination from Junior.
Mullins tries to close the distance and clinch but Junior swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mullins is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Mullins looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Junior!
Junior tries to buck Mullins off but Mullins is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Junior is trying to control Mullins's posture but Mullins avoids it.
Junior tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Mullins is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Junior is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mullins throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Junior is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mullins scores with a couple of short elbows.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Junior manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Junior is staying active underneath Mullins, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Junior gets full guard.

Junior looking for a triangle here. Mullins is fighting it but it looks tight! Junior pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Mullins is tapping out - this one is all over!
