Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Katsuro Sato! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Karl Thomas! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sato throws a low kick but Thomas moves out of range easily. Thomas moves forwards but Sato connects with a nice, crisp jab. That kick from Thomas tenderised Sato's leg. Sato is trying to keep his angry face on. Sato lands with a right hand. Sato shoots for a double leg takedown but Thomas sprawls well. He's pushed Sato's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Thomas tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sato was well out of range. Poor timing from Thomas. Sato closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Thomas quickly recovers to half guard. Sato seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. This has been an exciting period of action! Thomas keeps control of the position for the meantime. Sato working Thomas over with strikes. Sato wants to free his trapped foot but Thomas is holding on for dear life with his legs. Thomas wants to improve his position but Sato is controlling well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sato seems to be looking for submissions.

Thomas avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sato. Sato tries to pass the half guard into mount. Thomas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sato is trying to control the action in half guard but Thomas is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sato slips a nice elbow through Thomas's hands, connecting with Thomas's forehead. Thomas is staying active underneath Sato, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Sato lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Sato has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Thomas defend it? Sato steps over the head and cranks it - Thomas is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Sato!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Katsuro Sato! Katsuro Sato seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
