Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Masters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kari Kanerva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Masters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kari Kanerva! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Masters moves out of range as Kanerva strikes. Masters shoots in but no luck this time. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Masters. Masters fails with the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Masters. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kanerva fails to land with a series of punches.
Kanerva slaps away a takedown attempt from Masters, before circling back to the center of the mat. Masters misses with a takedown attempt - Kanerva sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Masters ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Kanerva lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Masters throws a hook but Kanerva avoids it easily. Masters throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kanerva's waist but Kanerva gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Masters off to one side. Masters shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kanerva as he jumps to the side. Masters moves out of range as Kanerva throws a body kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Masters closes the distance and clinches up with Kanerva, looking for a takedown. Masters pushes Kanerva against the cage but Kanerva circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Kanerva pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Masters scores with a hook to the body. Kanerva takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. The fighters circling - Masters throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Kanerva avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Masters looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Masters looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. and Masters counters with a nice double leg into guard. Masters controls from within his opponent's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Kanerva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Masters. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kanerva can't keep his opponent in guard - Masters advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Masters has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We're going to have a standup here because Chris Masters wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Kanerva takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Kanerva missing with a left hand there. Masters was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Kanerva slips under a jab from Masters. Masters shoots in looking for a takedown but Kanerva manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Masters's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Kanerva swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Masters shoots in and drives through. Kanerva sprawls well. Masters closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kanerva to the mat! Kanerva manages to get full guard. Masters won't allow Kanerva to sweep him here. Masters sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Masters's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Kanerva's jab looks to have found its range, popping Masters under the eye. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Kanerva checks a leg kick. Masters swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. A punch lands to the side of Masters 's head but he takes it in his stride. Kari Kanerva is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Masters closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Masters lands in his opponent's guard. Masters controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chris Masters dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Kanerva uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Masters. Masters closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Masters lands in his opponent's guard. Kanerva being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chris Masters. Masters throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kanerva was covering up waiting for the punch and Masters finishes the takedown easily into guard. Masters controlling from the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Masters postures up.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A nice combination there by Kanerva.
It looks like Chris Masters has been cut. Kanerva throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Masters on the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A momentary lapse in concentration from Kanerva enables Masters to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kanerva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Masters not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Masters drops back looking for a leg! Kanerva is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kanerva manages to kick Masters off! Masters jumps back into Kanerva's guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Masters accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Masters stands and throws Kanerva's legs to the side, diving into side control. Kanerva is being controlled here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Masters seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kanerva for as long as he can get away with. Masters in side control, throwing shots but Kanerva defends. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Masters. Masters takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Kari Kanerva seems to be getting the better of the standup. Kanerva checks a leg kick nicely. Masters tries for a takedown but Kanerva sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Kanerva throws a lazy right hand but Masters sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Masters walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Masters tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kanerva swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Masters. That's going to take a lot out of him. A cross from Kanerva lands. Masters ducks under a wild hook from Kanerva. Masters looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Masters maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Kanerva could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Masters has cracked it and Kanerva is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Masters!
