PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cody McKenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elliott Stanley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McKenzie comes into the arena with metallica hero of the day blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cody McKenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elliott Stanley!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from McKenzie misses its intended target.
McKenzie throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Stanley sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Stanley is trying hard to land a takedown here. McKenzie sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Stanley connects with a high kick.
Stanley tries to close the distance and clinch up but McKenzie swats him away and circles back towards the center.
McKenzie shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
McKenzie stuffs the takedown attempt from Stanley. Stanley gets slowly back to his feet.

Stanley clinches up against the cage.

Stanley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McKenzie throws a leg kick that is checked
and Stanley counters with a series of strikes. McKenzie will be more careful next time no doubt.

McKenzie throws a right and a left that Stanley avoids nicely.
Stanley shoots in and drives through. McKenzie sprawls well.
Cody McKenzie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elliott Stanley.
McKenzie loads up on a big right hand but Stanley slips the punch.
McKenzie swats away the attempt to clinch by Stanley.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stanley is defended easily by McKenzie.

Stanley drives through and clinches with McKenzie against the cage.

Stanley manages to break the clinch.

McKenzie throws the kick towards the body but Stanley avoids it.
Stanley swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stanley dives in and grabs McKenzie's left leg, looking for a takedown. McKenzie pushes down on Stanley's head and hops out.
Stanley shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McKenzie but McKenzie pushes him off and we're back to square one.
McKenzie looks for the body kick but Stanley saw that one coming.

Stanley has taken the fight to the clinch.
Stanley drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McKenzie gets the underhooks and prevents it.
McKenzie is trying to break free.

Stanley jumps guard but McKenzie stands there with Stanley around his waist. Stanley gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Stanley has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics McKenzie uses from the top position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
McKenzie wants to control from the top but Stanley keeps moving.
McKenzie won't allow Stanley to sweep him here.
McKenzie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Cody McKenzie.
McKenzie loads up on a big right hand but Stanley slips the punch.
McKenzie displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stanley.

Stanley closes the distance and pushes McKenzie back into the cage.
McKenzie wants to get back to striking at distance but Stanley won't allow it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Stanley jumps into guard, dragging McKenzie to the mat.

McKenzie slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Stanley lands a nice shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stanley takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Stanley will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Elliott Stanley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McKenzie misses with a hook.
McKenzie moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Stanley dives in and grabs McKenzie's left leg, looking for a takedown. McKenzie pushes down on Stanley's head and hops out.

Stanley misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McKenzie.

and Stanley counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for McKenzie!
McKenzie wants to control but Stanley postures up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McKenzie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Stanley off and has taken his back!
McKenzie has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Stanley's body.
Stanley wants to escape the position.

Stanley controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
A lull in the action here.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
McKenzie is riding his opponent, not letting Stanley buck him off.

Cody McKenzie has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Stanley moves into the clinch successfully.

Stanley lands a knee to the head.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Stanley.
McKenzie wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

McKenzie drops down looking for an ankle pick but Stanley pulls his leg out and moves away.
McKenzie tries a low kick but Stanley avoids it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
No joy there for McKenzie, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cody McKenzie will probably get the nod.
That's time! McKenzie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Stanley takes the fight into the clinch.

Stanley jumps guard but McKenzie turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Stanley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Stanley pushes McKenzie back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Stanley lands a nice knee to the body.
Stanley drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Stanley tries a body shot but McKenzie blocks it.
McKenzie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McKenzie wants to break the clinch but can't.

Stanley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
McKenzie misses with an uppercut

and Stanley counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Stanley.

Cody McKenzie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stanley is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

McKenzie blocks a head kick by Stanley.
Stanley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
McKenzie leaves Stanley with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Elliott Stanley seems to be getting the better of the standup.
McKenzie comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

and McKenzie counters by clinching up.
McKenzie tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stanley smiles and moves away.

Stanley shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Stanley was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
What's McKenzie going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
You can see the frustration on McKenzie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
McKenzie is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McKenzie is not content to let Stanley control the position.
Stanley tries to move into full mount but can't pass McKenzie's legs.
Stanley trying to control the action but McKenzie is working from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stanley tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McKenzie swivels and escapes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McKenzie thows a left - swing and a miss!

And that's the end of the fight!
Elliott Stanley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Stanley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
