PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sang Min Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chael Sauna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chael Sauna told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sang Min Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chael Sauna!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sauna showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Kim.
Kim shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sauna sprawls well. Sauna wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kim gets slowly back to his feet.
Sauna jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Kim fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sauna, pushing him back against the cage.
Kim swings away with an uppercut that misses.

The referee is keeping an eye on Kim - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Kim lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Sauna.
Kim throws a head punch that misses.
Kim connects with a knee to the head.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Sauna wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kim tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Kim gets through Sauna's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Sauna wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kim has him pressed against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sauna's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Sauna counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kim has control of Sauna's left arm, preventing Sauna from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sauna working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kim's head.
Sauna throws a strike but Kim rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kim is looking to advance position but Sauna has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Kim wants to hold on but Sauna pushes him away.
Sauna throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sauna lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Kim bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That was a close round but I would say that Sang Min Kim will probably get the nod.

Sauna gets to his feet and stands over Kim, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Kim felt that one! Sauna unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Kim from any more punishment!
