The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lipponen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kontiovaara down.

Lipponen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kontiovaara, who protects the arm well.
Lipponen sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Kontiovaara is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Lipponen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lipponen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kontiovaara knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Kontiovaara needs to keep his hands up - Lipponen had a free shot at his head there.

Lipponen feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kontiovaaras jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Lipponen is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kontiovaara's half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lipponen is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kontiovaara can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Lipponen cracks Kontiovaara with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Juhani Kontiovaara's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Lipponen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kontiovaara is looking to escape.
Kontiovaara tries to lock up and control but Lipponen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
