Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elliott Stanley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Micky Ward! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ward scores with a shot to the body.
Stanley tries to clinch there but Ward circles away.
Ward gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Stanley throwing strikes but missing. Ward is pulling down on Stanley's head. It's preventing any offense from Stanley, at least for the moment. Ward wants to control but Stanley passes easily into half guard.
Ward tries to roll over but Stanley keeps him under control. Stanley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ward is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Stanley's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Stanley's back!
That's one minute gone in the round. Stanley trying to control the hands but Ward won't let him. Ward lands a shot to the head. Ward is controlling the position but Stanley somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Ward is looking to take a break and control but Stanley is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ward throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Ward wants to take a breather but Stanley is having none of it. Ward slips a nice elbow through Stanley's hands, connecting with Stanley's forehead. Stanley on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Stanley tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stanley pushes Ward off and gets back to his feet. Ward misses with a combination
and Stanley holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Ward is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Stanley lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Stanley manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Stanley not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Stanley wants to sweep but no luck. Ward lands a couple of elbows. Stanley is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Ward rolls with it to try and escape but Stanley cranks on the arm and Ward is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
