Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Erwin Rommel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, LeSean Mccoy! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mccoy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rommel swivels and escapes. Mccoy tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rommel manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rommel gets caught napping as Mccoy dives in and scores a takedown. Rommel manages to retain guard. Rommel throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rommel has his foot on Mccoy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mccoy works his way back into a safe position though. Rommel is looking for a triangle but Mccoy pushes his legs off easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mccoy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Mccoy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rommel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rommel is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mccoy lands a couple of elbows. Rommel is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Mccoy has his hands clasped together but Rommel extends an breaks Mccoy's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Rommel.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Erwin Rommel! A determined Erwin Rommel didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
