Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scholl Maziki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nathan Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Scholl Maziki!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin closes the distance and clinches up with Maziki, looking for a takedown. Martin pushes Maziki against the cage but Maziki circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Martin wants to clinch.

and Martin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Maziki won't be happy with that.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Maziki misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Maziki struggling a bit here.
Maziki pushes Martin away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Martin gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Martin trying to control the position but Maziki is working away.
Martin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Maziki is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Maziki gets back to half guard.
Martin stops Maziki from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maziki is pressing down on Martin's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Maziki has his hands on Martin's head, controlling the position.
Maziki is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Martin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Martin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maziki has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Martin has managed to get both his arms back between Maziki's legs - danger averted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Martin looking to sit in guard and control but Maziki gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Maziki wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving.
Maziki throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Martin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Maziki stands up from Martin's guard - Maziki perhaps looking for a knockout.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Martin dives in and scores a takedown into Maziki's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Martin trying to control the position from guard on top but Maziki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Maziki trying to keep a closed guard but Martin is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Martin won't allow Maziki to get back to his feet.

Maziki has his foot on Martin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Martin works his way back into a safe position though.

Martin trying to move into half guard but instead Maziki has managed to sweep!
Maziki wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving.
Maziki content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Martin striking off his back but it's not causing Maziki any problems.
Martin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Maziki lands a couple of elbows.
Maziki postures up in Martin's guard and throws a big left but Martin blocks it.

Martin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Maziki drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Martin manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maziki has Martin in his guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Maziki pushes a forearm under Martin's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Martin is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Scholl Maziki!
