PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Gonzales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes into the arena with Big and Red by EC blaring out of the sound system. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

and Gonzales counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Gonzales not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Gonzales throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gonzales scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Gonzales thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smith's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gonzales is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smith is just riding it out for now. Gonzales eventually gives up the hold.

Smith looking for submissions off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith tries to roll over but Gonzales keeps him under control.
Gonzales really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gonzales working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Smith might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gonzales is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Smith is trying to control but can't.

Gonzales looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gonzales winds up and cracks Smith with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gonzales lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gonzales lands a nice short elbow.

Smith is rocked!
Gonzales lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Smith! More strikes land and this one is all over! Gonzales jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
