PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andre Luis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Pyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andre Luis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Christopher Pyle!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pyle gets a double leg takedown into Luis's guard.

Luis working for a triangle but Pyle defends it easily.

Luis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pyle is aware though and is defending well.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Luis is trying to control the position but Pyle postures up.

Luis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pyle's guard.
Pyle wants to stand but Luis is controlling the position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Pyle holds on and takes a little breather.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Pyle moves into range and clinches up with Luis.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Luis tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Pyle avoids it.

Pyle gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Pyle tries to stand but can't do so whilst Luis controls his leg.
Luis tries to roll over but Pyle keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Luis slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Luis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pyle gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Luis has a closed guard, preventing Pyle from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pyle won't allow Luis to sweep him here.
Pyle scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pyle got a little sloppy there for a moment and Luis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pyle has managed to get both his arms back between Luis's legs - danger averted.
Luis is breathing heavily.

Luis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Luis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pyle is aware though and is defending well.

Pyle is figuring out what he wants to do next.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Andre Luis will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Pyle tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Andre Luis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Luis doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Pyle counters by clinching up.
Pyle prevents the takedown attempt.
Luis is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pyle gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andre Luis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pyle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Luis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Luis is looking to stand back up but Pyle counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Luis.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pyle works his way into full mount!

Pyle prevents Luis from getting the reversal.

Christopher Pyle has got the better of the ground game so far.
Luis is trying to escape the mount.
Luis is squirming around, avoiding Pyle's attempts to control the action.
Pyle is landing with some decent strikes but Luis is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Pyle pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Pyle working the ground and pound effectively.

Luis wants to control but Pyle is having none of it.
Pyle controlling from mount.
Luis is trying to reverse the position but instead Pyle has taken his back - oops!

I really don't envy Luis right now.

Pyle has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Pyle doesn't have the hooks in and Luis manages to turn into his guard.
Pyle is trying to control the position but Luis postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pyle can do anything to dispel that myth.
Pyle is controlling Luis's posture.
Pyle wants to stand and escape but Luis is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Andre Luis wasn't doing enough on the ground.

and Pyle decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Luis's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pyle tries to stand but Luis is controlling from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pyle looking to sit in guard and control but Luis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Luis works a leg free and moves into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christopher Pyle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Luis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Luis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pyle as he avoids it easily.

Pyle closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pyle lands in his opponent's guard.

Luis pushes a forearm under Pyle's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Pyle is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andre Luis!
Our winner, Andre Luis, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
