Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcus Riley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Liberius Beowulf! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Riley lands with a cross. Riley connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Riley takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Beowulf throws a leg kick and Beowulf takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Riley shoots for a takedown but Beowulf saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Some bone on bone action there as Riley checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Liberius Beowulf seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Beowulf throws a leg kick but Riley moved away. Riley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Beowulf is looking to regain half guard here but Riley keeps moving and retains side control. Riley goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Beowulf has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Riley but great work by Beowulf. Beowulf decides to take the fight back to the feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Riley fails to land the takedown. Beowulf looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beowulf tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Riley fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Riley. That's going to take a lot out of him. Beowulf fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Beowulf scores with a shot to the body.
Beowulf moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Riley on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Beowulf. Beowulf obviously looking to wear him down.
Beowulf stuffs the takedown attempt from Riley. Riley gets slowly back to his feet. Riley checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Beowulf misses with an attempted mid kick.
Riley fails with a takedown attempt. Beowulf throws a front kick that sends Riley stumbling back into the cage. Riley is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A solid leg kick lands there for Beowulf.
Beowulf tries to score with a low kick but Riley moves his leg out of the way. Beowulf misses with an uppercut. Beowulf connects with a high kick. A leg kick checked by Beowulf. Riley tries to score a power double leg takedown but Beowulf sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Riley somewhat. Beowulf jabs Riley right on the nose. Riley blinks but takes it well. Beowulf misses with a low kick.
Beowulf swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Riley. Beowulf misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Beowulf tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Beowulf does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Beowulf shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Beowulf throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Riley looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Beowulf is fending him off so far but Riley persists. Nope, Beowulf circles away and we're back to standing. Beowulf feints and then cracks Riley's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Riley down. Beowulf shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Nice jab there from Beowulf. Beowulf throws a leg kick that misses. Riley takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Beowulf punishes Riley's body with a nice straight punch. Riley on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. A solid leg kick lands there for Beowulf.
Beowulf throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Riley stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Beowulf follows into mount!
Riley is rocked! Beowulf is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Riley goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Beowulf!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Liberius Beowulf! A pretty intense looking Liberius Beowulf took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
