PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Neb Narwhal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by God Save Me. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neb Narwhal!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jones fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Narwhal on the side of the head.
Narwhal shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Jones!

Jones forces Narwhal back against the cage and clinches.
Jones using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones manages to break the clinch.

Narwhal gets tackled into the cage by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch.

Jones pulls guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Narwhal decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Jones dives in and scores a takedown into Narwhal's guard.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Narwhal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Jones trying to move into half guard but instead Narwhal has managed to sweep!
Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Narwhal has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Narwhal would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Narwhal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jones tries to get out of the position.
Jones has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Jon Jones has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Jones manages to pull guard.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Narwhal gets to his feet - Jones follows without any prompting.
Narwhal misses with a two punch combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones lands with a nice body kick.
Narwhal looks winded!

Horrible takedown by Narwhal or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.

Narwhal gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jones is looking to stand up but Narwhal won't let him.

Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Narwhal is proving hard to escape from.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Narwhal is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jones is controlling him well.
Narwhal is looking to regain half guard here but Jones keeps moving and retains side control.
Jones tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Narwhal has escaped the position, nice work there.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Jones blocks a head kick by Narwhal.

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Narwhal's guard.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Narwhal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Narwhal wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.

Narwhal looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Narwhal is looking to stand up but Jones isn't so interested in that idea.
Narwhal is breathing heavily.
Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Narwhal is keeping the position for now.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jones's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Narwhal wants to get back to his feet but Jones is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Narwhal is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
Narwhal is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jon Jones wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Jones darts in and clinches Narwhal up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones drags the fight down to the ground.

Narwhal is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Narwhal stops Jones from standing up.

Jones working for submissions but it's allowed Narwhal to get to half guard.
Jones is trying to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Jones on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Jones controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

Narwhal is looking for a kimura but Jones is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Narwhal to get the leverage.
Jones desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Jones looks like he's trying to stand up.

Narwhal throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Jones punching from the bottom.
Narwhal wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.
Narwhal seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Jones wants to sweep but Narwhal has passed to side control!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jon Jones will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Narwhal tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Narwhal to the ground. Narwhal escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jones has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Narwhal throws a left and a right that both miss

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Narwhal won't be happy with that.
Jones looks up at the clock and then as Narwhal takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Jones smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Narwhal tries to escape but Jones is in control.
Narwhal sneaks back into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Narwhal pushes Jones off and gets back to his feet.
Narwhal takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.

Jones has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Narwhal uses from the top position.
Jones is trying to keep Narwhal in close.

Narwhal wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Neb Narwhal has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jon Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jon Jones.
Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
