Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Matt Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 20 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gordon Freeman! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz tries to land a front kick but Freeman steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Diaz connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Diaz slaps away a takedown attempt from Freeman, before circling back to the center of the mat. Freeman with a lazy takedown attempt and Diaz counters with a straight right hand.
It looks like Gordon Freeman has been cut. Freeman needs to keep his hands up - Diaz had a free shot at his head there. Diaz scores with a jab. Freeman acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Diaz, right into the meat.
Freeman takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Diaz turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Freeman showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Diaz.
Diaz buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Diaz lands with a nice body punch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz scores with a takedown into Freeman's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Freeman is trying to keep Diaz in close.
Freeman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Freeman keeps moving. Diaz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Diaz stands and throws Freeman's legs to the side, diving into side control. Freeman tries to buck Diaz off but Diaz is having none of it. Diaz working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz tries to advance to mount but can't. Diaz moves into full mount! Freeman prevents Diaz from taking his back. Freeman wants to control but Diaz is having none of it. Diaz jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Freeman manages to avoid the submission attempt. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Freeman tries to bench press Diaz off him but Diaz keeps the position. Freeman can't do much from the bottom here. Diaz tries to move to mount but Freeman blocks the move with his legs. Diaz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Freeman tries to bench press Diaz off him but Diaz keeps the position. Diaz tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Diaz is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Freeman looks calm but he's in trouble here. Diaz gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Freeman is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Diaz lets go of the hold and Freeman can pop his arm back in it's socket.
