PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Takashi Kadota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sepp Maier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maier comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Apaga mas não bate kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takashi Kadota!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Sepp Maier!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kadota lands with a right hand.
Maier is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kadota sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A slow jab from Kadota misses its intended target.
Maier fails in his attempt to clinch.

Maier closes the distance and pushes Kadota back into the cage.
Maier wants to take the fight to the mat but Kadota manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Maier drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Takashi Kadota has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sepp Maier.

Maier escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A big left from Kadota misses.
Kadota misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Maier.
Nice defenses there by Maier.
Kadota stuffs the takedown attempt from Maier. Maier gets slowly back to his feet.
Kadota comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Kadota gets caught napping as Maier dives in and scores a takedown. Kadota manages to retain guard.

Kadota looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maier is one step ahead there.

Maier drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kadota looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kadota looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kadota!
Maier tries to improve position but can't.
Kadota advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maier really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Maier regains half guard.
Maier wants to get back to full guard.
Maier is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Maier makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Maier.

Maier is looking for a triangle but Kadota pushes his legs off easily.

Kadota cracks Maier with a solid left hand.
Kadota keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Maier's head.

Kadota makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kadota is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Maier throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Maier can't keep his opponent in guard - Kadota advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Maier is looking to improve his position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kadota is nestled in close to Maier, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Maier has a hand on Kadota's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Kadota takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Takashi Kadota will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Maier tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kadota just stands there and leans against the cage.

Maier tries to score a body lock takedown but Kadota shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Kadota's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sepp Maier is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Maier fails with the takedown.
Takashi Kadota seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Maier looking to score a takedown here. Kadota is defending well but Maier drives through and ends up in Kadota's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Maier is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kadota is just riding it out for now. Maier eventually gives up the hold.

Kadota has his foot on Maier's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Maier works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kadota is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Maier's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Maier's back!
Maier rolls, trying to escape but Kadota keeps control of the position.
Sepp Maier has got the better of the ground game so far.
Maier is covering up but some of the strikes from Kadota are getting through and doing damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Maier has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Maier tries to escape but Kadota has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Takashi Kadota will probably get the nod.

Maier tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kadota manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Kadota is fighting off a takedown attempt but Maier is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kadota to the mat. Kadota regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Maier is pushing down on Kadota's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kadota is fighting to maintain full guard but Maier has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kadota is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Maier frees his head nicely. Oh but Kadota has switched to an armbar! Maier is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
